Lamid, Why Do You Have Problems Too?

Chapter 10

Lamid wasn’t any better than Hollowfield. We get there and guards have already correntined part of the city. Apparently Sophia’s play had begun to play tonight. The posters that were posted had the symbol on them Giver showed us. Immediately Giver volunteered us to help, saying that we knew what was happening. The guard stressed that we save the Mayor. Our one job, save the Mayor.
I really didn’t want to get involved. So what they had an infestation of some creature. How was this going to lead me toward finding Roes? It just seemed like a chance to get killed. I reluctantly followed my party since if anything, I knew I could help with crowd control. Ah, entangling people. I was so happy to learn that trick. What with unknown persons trying to kidnap me, getting them entangled and I shadow jumping could make a quick escape.
We begin to head into the heart of the city. As we walk down one of the streets, we can hear someone shout about the King. Not sure if that’s a reference from the play, The King in Yellow, that was being performed moments ago or a cry to get the King of Varstoka. Giver informs us that up ahead it was the Mayor saying that. He suspects him to be under a spell. Worse yet is one of the worm creatures was with him, though not hurting him yet.
Suddenly from up ahead a mob came into view. I quickly entangled the mob. Neep began to fire some arrows while Goban drew a wand Giver focused on trying to save the Mayor. I then made the roots and vegetation that entangled the mob spikey hoping to make them not want to move due to the thorns that would now tear at their exposed skin.
The mob continued to move toward us. I then casted a spell that made it possible for me to climb the buildings with ease. I wasn’t about to hang around on the ground with a mob coming toward me. I was about spent on my spells anyways. To think we had crash landed earlier this morning. I had learn much about neep, but still was unfamiliar with Giver and Goban. Yet here we were fighting together as though we’ve known each other longer.
I’m kind of saddened to think that the strange human, Selina, and Thessadin are no longer traveling with us now. Perhaps they were the smart group to have gone a different direction with the other survivors from the aircraft. Alas, I should focus on the task at hand. Daydreaming wasn’t about to solve anything.
I instructed Riddik to go protect the mayor. If something tried to attack him, he was to touch the creature then retreat. Once Riddik got down there, a dwarf went right for him and swung. Thankfully the dwarf missed. I then told Riddik to retreat. Forget the Mayor. Riddik’s to protect me! I’m sure Giver would be able to get the Mayor soon.
Neep and Goban eventually join me as Giver finally gets the Mayor. The Mayor was passed out due to one of the others casting a spell. The mayor’s lucky to be alive since he fell asleep in water. Giver tried placing him on the roof with us, but after he slipped a few times, Giver placed him on the ground.
The dwarf was still ever persistent though the mob was now dead. I was content letting Neep and Goban fire away at them. Suddenly I felt Riddik hovering next to me.
Mistress, why don’t you help them? You’re the stronger one of the two of us, Riddik whispered in my head. I looked at him confused.
Not THAT strong. I did what I could, now it’s up to them, I responded.
You can call down lightning, remember?
I actually had forgotten my ability to pull lightning from the sky. Seeing the drawf was still advancing, climbing the side of the building we were on, and the worm creature still splashing in the water at the bottom of the amphitheater, I began to focus on bringing storm clouds. Soon the sky darkened further and I took to bring down a bolt of lightning, one at a time.

Finally, with the added help, the final two creatures were dead. It was rather exhausting. I plan on not budging from this town until we rest. I can make us a place to sleep still. In fact, that’s what I’m going to do now. Good night!
